Nossa takes '11-11-11,' 'Papam,' 'Artigas'

RIO P JANEIRO -- "11-11-11," "Habemus Papam" and "Artigas" feature around the first distribution slate of Nossa Distribuidora, Brazil's groundbreaking new distribution service revealed last Tuesday in the Rio Film Festival. The organization will release about 50 films over late 2011, 2012 and first quarter 2013, Boss Marco Aurelio Marcondes told Variety, which underscores the leverage Nossa seeks to exercise with participants in South america. Among Nossa's first releases is going to be supernatural chiller "11-11-11" from Darren Lynn Bousman ("Saw II," "Saw III" and "Saw IV"). Created by Epic Pictures Group and Spain's Canonigo Films, it'll bow in South america on November. 11, day-and-date using the U.S. Nanni Moretti's "Papam" is really a comic drama in regards to a reluctant new pontiff. "Artigas," helmed by cinematographer-switched-helmer Cesar Charlone ("The Pope's Toilet"), activates Jose Gervasio Artigas, who battled from 1806 to 1820 to wrestle independence for Uruguay. This diversity will typify Nossa's pick-ups, at home and abroad, stated Marcondes. Nossa will even support new filmmakers. One Nossa title, as already introduced, is "Artificial Paradises," about Brazil's rave scene. "Paradises" marks the fiction feature directorial debut of Marcos Prado, producer of "Elite Squad" and "Elite Squad 2." Another Nossa title, Brazilian Western "Matraga -- the Hour and Turn," is really a further debut, this time around from Vinicius Coimbra, a helper director on Walter Salles' "Central Station." "Matraga" world opened a week ago in the Rio Festival in the Premiere Brasil section. Nossa's first slate is going to be revealed entirely in the Show Buzios industry convention on November. 24-25, Marcondes stated. About 30 of Nossa's 50 is going to be worldwide game titles, he added. Nossa's founding partners are largely top-level Brazilian producers -- Jose Padilha and Marcos Prado's Zazen, Fernando Meirelles' o2 Filmes, Daniel Filho's Lereby, Conspiracao Films and Morena Films -- plus Fabio Lima and Marcondes' investment company, FL & MAM Participacoes. But Nossa will have the ability to access worldwide game titles in one partner, indie distrib Vinny Films, run by former Europa Filmes owner Wilson Feitosa. Under Nossa's collections arrangement, box office revenues are compensated right into a joint account handled with a film's producer and Nossa. "A number of our aims are transparency, as being a showcase for talent and getting a sensitivity for consumer taste," Marcondes stated. Contact the range newsroom at news@variety.com
